Around the world, people have given whale sharks many beautiful names. In Mexico they are called "domino". On Madagasar – "marokintana", many stars. And in East Africa – "papa shilingi", shark covered in shillings. According to a local legend, God was so pleased when he created this giant fish that he ordered his angels to throw down handfuls of gold and silver coins onto its back. Ever since, the whale sharks swim near the surface catching the sun and reflecting it back to heavens with their magical markings as a way of saying thank you to their Maker.
